Production Dairy: Adam's Shoot part 3: Foley
Today marks the final day of shooting for the "Me Myself And I" Project, with the last thing to be shot is the actual Foley work. A Foley is sound in a film that is reproduced and added and synced with the footage, for example, footsteps, dialogue, door bangs, and typing of a keyboard, it can be virtually anything.
Much like how Adam M. Recorded his Narrator, i set up a microphone on a stand, plugged in to the camera, as we haven't been shown how to use the audio recording network. So i know what i was looking at whilst recording, i made a rough edit of my project so im on track. I watched through the piece multiple times and through each viewing, i created a different sound effect:
1: voices:
Even though the character of Adam did not have any actual lines in the piece, i did however dub some "gibberish" such as gasps, grunts, sighs, burps and exclamations. The main reason for this is to keep it in the 30s max fleischer fashion, Popeye cartoons, when the dubbing was not precise, the characters (mainly popeye and olive oil) would also talk "Gibberish"and talking when the lips did not move at all
2: Footsteps and bangs:
pretty straight forward on the process. i took off my shoes and tapped on the floor in the time of my footsteps. The banging was also self explanatory, creating sudden bangs next to the microphone.
3: The Narrator:
As My idea was based on The Art Of Skiing(1941),various Goofy Cartoons and The Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Video Series, I recorded my narrator as the video was playing so i could stay in sync with the video, so now when it comes to editing it makes it simpler where the narrator speaks.
4. Skeleton laugh:
possibly the most strenuous on the throat, i wanted my skeleton to be comedically sadistic much like the skeletons from Army Of Darkness (1992) so i decided to create a loud crazy laugh for the skeleton to reflect its fast paced movement.
My experience creating my Foley was quite fun. I only wish i had brought in more items to use to create more interesting sounds, but i feel more confident that what i recorded today will make my final project all the more better. The final step now is the actual edit. with my rough edit clocking in at 3:29, i need to begin shaving off some scenes or cutting scenes completely so i can add titles and credits.
