Research: The role of an editor/Producer

being that editing is one of the job roles im more interested in, i decided to look more in depth at what an editor does and what they're responsibilities. Also during this live 1 project, i have also taken up the role of a producer also.

basically, the job of an editor is to craft the final product from the film footage from the project. An editor is one of the key roles of a production whom also also works closely with the film director to help piece together the final product, as the director would need to create a edit decision list to help the editor know what to use. when it comes to software to edit on, some of the professional and industry standard software consist of final cut pro, sony Vegas, avid media composer and adobe premiere pro. Luckily i have used final cut pro in the past and have currently learning avid media composer through our course.

editing is a very time consuming role, sitting at a suite for long periods of time which can be strenuous if you not take regular breaks. it also does not help that editors will sometimes have to

work under pressure to ensure they meet the deadline. although having the technical skills, organisational skills, and the know how of using editing software, it also helps being a person with a vivid imagination and a good idea of how to tell a story good team working skills with a good attention to detail and patience in case things go wrong (which i have definitely dealt with in the past.

when it comes to actually getting a job as an editor, they're actually work freelance, meaning to get into the business is based on skill and reputation, although it does help if you do have a high education degree. Getting into the job starts from the bottom as a runner, then working you're way up to assistants and then finally an editor.

Although i found editing a quite fun experience on any project, producers on the other hand, takes a lot of work and dedication.

a producer is the one that gets the perfect cast and crew together to ensure they turn ideas into profitable films, that makes them in charge of all departments of the production. before production begins, the producer is the main person who must approve everything, including locations, the script, the budget and the production schedule. once the production has begun, they ensure the production runs smoothly, to ensure this they stay in contact with all the key departments of the production. They also have the job of approving any script changes.

After the production, they will then start to talk with finance and distribution companies to then market and distribute the film.

some of the key skills that can help you when being a producer Have experience of working in the film industry is to have a good business sense and a good understanding of finance. also negotiating skills and self motivation are very key to help form you're perfect team, and to help motivate the team during hard times.

Although i did become a producer during the live 1 project, i did find it stressful and a little bit boring, as i did not think the role was creative.
