The Road to RTS
Yesterday was the day of the royal television society awards (or RTS for short) in which some of the projects we had made could be in the chance of winning awards alongside other universities and colleges competing aswell as big names in the film industry coming to the event, including some editors that could benefit my report. After travelling up to leeds we then sat down and viewed the nominees and felt very influenced by the amazing talent on display. such as "The animator" which gives me ideas on how to create my minor/ final major project.
Even though we did not leave with any awards, but i did leave with some valuable information from an editor who gave out one of the awards. One of the more interesting bits of information i gathered from him is how he showed off his work. Instead of what we usually do for a show reel (like putting it on a USB or email to the possible client) but was put on a VHS tape ans sent to the client. more info i had gathered from him was getting a job in the industry and getting a job while waiting for work from clients while working as a freelance editor.
The other advice i was given was learning more types of editing software and the ever changing types. He told us a story about how the bbc would edit through the apple software "Final cut pro" as it was one the top professional types of software to use, but after an update that made it very difficult to use was then switched out with avid.
Luckily i managed to get his email so i can ask him more information on his career as an editor for my report.
