PP: the types of CV and which to write for

when it comes to applying for the jobn of your dreams, or to apply for a job to pay the bills, it is always important to know how to present your skills and acheivemnts to your would-be employer; enter the CV. the Curriculum Vitae is made soley to advertise yourself, to show your past acheivements and accompishments and above all; to show that you are the right person for the job. But the most important thing to know is what TYPE of CV to write depending on your employer or company. There are three different types of CV depending on their uses and job type and how to correctly structure the CV.

Most CV's typically starts with a personal profile which highlights the achievements, skills and personal qualities that you possess. This is then followed by a succession of sections, each relating to a different skill or ability. depending on what type of CV is written, the skills should be ordered in decreasing order of importance.

Chronological CV:

pretty much what the name says, this type of CV displays past employment into chronological order, which can defiently be seen as a good way of displaying all your previous areas of employment and is one of the more preffered types of CVs as it can help identify the qualifications they need. However the downside to this form of CV is that it can make it obvious for the employer to see gaps of employment which you would rather not want to see them look at.

The Functional CV

Unlike the chronological CV, the functional CV (or known as the skill based CV) puts more enphesis on what to can do for your employers, higlighting the skills that are more prevelant in, especially for those who go through variable sorts of jobs with transferrable skills, especially if you are tranferring into a different industry. the negative side to this form of CV is that as much is it is great to see the skills that you are more prevelant in, it is not structered in a way that most employers would want.

The Combined CV:

Just as the name suggests, the combined CV is a fusion of the functional CV and the Chronological CV, in which the CV may be slighly longer but manages to be the best of bost worlds when creating the CV, however its strengths are also is its weakness as the size of the cv can put off employers. the CV is also better used when the person using the format has large amounts of job roles and experience and not for those with employment gaps.
