Fears. fair use and education: using film clips and music legally

The main issue that concerned me when starting this documentary was the use of copyrighted material in the project which would be a legal based nightmare to deal with especially when told in the past not to use such material in our past projects. however, because of the type of project this is, it is important to know what laws our project are protected by in the event that the documentary will either be flagged as a copyright dispuit or shown at a public veiwing such as the RTS awards or even being streamed on youtube.

One such example of a project being taken down on youtube by a film maker unlawfully is when reviews of a film called "Cool cat saves the kids" were taken down by its film creator, Derek Savage under the false pretenses of copyright. It came out however that the reviews were protected by fair use; mainly "THE DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT OF 1998". The video below shows that reviews such as those taken down by derek were protected by this law as the videos fell under being transformative and parody.

Not only does this law protect transformative and parody based videos but also educational based works as documentary making fits into the catagories of commentary, criticism and educational purposes here is a link of the official document showing the document which shows that our project is fine under this law.
